Ground Clearance
We begin any project by removing old parts of your garden.
- Unwanted sheds and clutter.
- Inappropriate or unhealthy plants, hedgerows and trees.
- Old paving, fencing, pergolas and walls.
- Patios, blockwork and concrete.
- Undernourished and poor quality lawns.
- Cut back overgrown hedges and trees.
We always reclaim, recycle or dispose of any waste in an environmentally responsible way.
Ground Preparation
We also prepare the ground to receive new plants, pathways & features and to achieve the overall architectural shapes required by your garden's design.
- Remodel your garden landscape to create different levels and more interesting shapes.
- Lay out beds in a variety of styles - including raised beds.
- Prepare and lay out lawns.
- Apply mulch to suppress weeds and retain moisture - including bark and mulch matting.
- If your intended planting scheme requires soil improvement, we will use organic fertilisers to adjust your garden's nutrient levels and acidity. This may not be necessary when using native and wildflower plants, as they often prefer the thinner, alkaline soils found throughout the South West.
Paths
We install all types of pathway, choosing materials & shapes that create appealing effects, provide easy access and define the structure of your garden.
Some of the materials we use are :-
- Hogging - A mixture of clay and gravel.
- Gravel - Cerney and Romsey gravel.
- Indian Slate - A beautiful coloured slate.
- Block Paving.
- Flagstones - Blue Lias, reclaimed, quarried and cast.
- Paving Slabs.
Hard Surfaces
Hard surfaces are used to provide a foundation for the more functional aspects of your garden.
We can install :-
- Hard standing areas - Bases for sheds, greenhouses & other garden structures.
- Driveways - Block paving, gravel and concrete.
- Patios - Ideal for tables & chairs and container plants.
- Decking - Attractive hardwoods and softwoods.
- Steps & Ramps.
Fences
Carefully chosen fencing can provide privacy and act as a complementary backdrop to your plants and trees throughout the year.
We erect all types and sizes of fencing, using either pre-made panels or hand construction techniques:-
- Woven from Living Willow or Hazel.
- Larchlap.
- Trelliswork.
- Post & Rail.
- Picket fencing.
- Closeboard.
- Palisade.
- Concrete.
All wood products are treated with preservatives that have no impact on surrounding plants, trees, pets or children.
Walls
Walls provide a greater degree of privacy and permanence than fences. They are also used as landscape features and to provide earth retention.
We are equally at home with most walling techniques, from dry-stone walling to brickwork. Some of the materials that we use are :-
- Cotwold Stone.
- Bath Stone.
- Cary Stone.
- Blue Lias.
- Purbeck.
- Ham Hill Stone.
- Ashlar.
- Keinton Stone.
- Rendered Breeze Block.
- Cemented Brickwork.
Where possible, we try to use locally sourced stone, as it is often more in keeping with local architecture, and has a lower impact on the environment due to the shorter distance over which it is transported.
